Niall O'Leary is an IT consultant, developer and trainer working in the Higher Education sector, with particular strengths in Digital Humanities. Through his work managing many large-scale national and international projects, he has developed a wide-ranging skill-set encompassing everything from databases to geo-spatial mapping, online systems to XML encoding. He is frequently called upon to create innovative solutions quickly, having particular strengths in analysis, project management and institutional relations. Espousing a philosophy of open source development, he has a comprehensive understanding of internationally recognised data standards and formats such as Dublin Core, EAD, TEI, etc.. He is as comfortable in an academic environment as an industrial one and brings the same rigour to his work in all areas.

A graduate of UCD's Masters in Film Studies programme, Niall began as a scriptwriter in the audiovisual industry. Building on his knowledge of digital media, he then participated in TCD's Masters in Multimedia Systems. This turned his attention to writing articles on IT, creating online stories and scripting online games. He gradually became more involved in IT development, becoming Web Development Specialist at DCU. Creating many important online university systems, such as student portals and online results, he also maintained the university website and advised on best practice. Academically he lectured in Web Technologies, programming, and screenwriting. In 2010 he became DHO Project manager (IT) at the Digital Humanities Observatory, a project of the Royal Irish Academy. In this role, he managed and developed many cutting edge systems in the Digital Humanities area, including:
